Recent Continuing Education Courses Attended by Dr. Davis

Importance of Continuing Education

Q: Why is it important for dentists to attend continuing education courses?

A: Dentistry doesn't stand still. The dental profession is constantly evolving to better meet the needs of both patients and practitioners. The ADA (American Dental Association) supports a growing number of continuing education initiatives to keep dentists on top of the latest tools, treatment methods, scientific research and business practices.Pursuing continued education in the dental field can be beneficial in several ways. For a dentist who is currently in practice, ongoing continuing education ensures that his or her patients have access to the latest diagnostic, preventative and treatment methods.Source: http://www.ada.org/98.aspx

Q: How will these specific courses develop Dr. Davis skills of expertise in dentistry?

A: 3D dental imaging is an up-and-coming technology that is increasingly becoming the standard of care for dental treatment planning. The technology significantly increases diagnostic accuracy for implant dentistry, periodontal disease (gum disease), endodontics (root canal therapy), airway evaluation for sleep apnea, TMJ evaluation, pathological conditions, and orthodontic treatment. The 7th International Congress on 3D Dental Imaging Conference increased Dr. Davis' knowledge on the benefits of 3D imaging in the dental office, the newest technological advancements in the field, and the latest software advancements. The Davis Dental team plans on adding this technology to the office in the near future.

Dr. Sclar's immediate function course is designed to bring implant surgeons up-to-date with the latest techniques for full mouth rehabilitation with dental implants. Dr. Sclar is a world-renowned implant surgeon whose practice focuses primarily on esthetic implant and soft tissue surgery and whose experience and expertise has significantly advanced the field of implantology.

Traditional dentures have for years been the standard of care for people missing teeth, however, since the introduction of implants to dentistry, implant-supported prostheses are now becoming the standard of care. There are many benefits to such prostheses, especially those that are fixed (not removable):

  • stability similar to that of natural teeth
  • functionality (ability to chew and speak) similar to that of natural teeth
  • maintenance of the bone that supports teeth (after teeth are extracted, the bone that once surrounded the teeth tends to resorb or shrink over time. Because of this, dentures will not fit well causing lack of stability and function creating sores and discomfort within the mouth)
  • esthetic appearance similar to that of natural teeth
  • no risk of decay or cavities
  • feeling whole again (patients who receive this treatment feel like they have there natural teeth back. They can eat and smile like they used to when they were younger)

Dr. Davis is excited to attend this course to stay up-to-date with the most advanced techniques for implant surgery and restoration and is enthused to bring this type of life-changing
treatment to his practice.

Smile Makeover

Our Latest Smile Makeover!

Victoria's front 4 incisors were restored with porcelain crowns (Ceramist - Andrew Marx, Lynx Dental Lab, www.lynxdentallab.com)

Patient Testimonial: I have had a fear of the dentist since I was a young girl, it has been difficult to find the courage  to get myself to the dentist. For years I have had discoloring from a composite build up on my two front teeth, which left me not wanting to smile much and constantly covering my mouth.Last summer I met Jordan and Elena Davis, I soon discovered that Jordan was a dentist, I made the decision to go see him at his clinic because he was approachable and a genuine person, it was time to go in to the dentist after far too many years. Yes, I was scared but Dr Davis was friendly and very understanding. On my first visit of a consultation and cleaning I felt very well cared for and knew that  I had made the right choice and that I would receive the right kind of care professionally and emotionally. I then proceeded to have four of my front teeth fixed which was a huge relief, I have never been so looked after and been so pleased with an outcome. My teeth look and feel like my own but better and I now smile a lot, I have stopped covering my mouth and have more confidence as I don't have to worry if people are looking at my flawed teeth.  I no longer have anxiety when I go to the dentist. Not only do you receive exceptional treatment and expertise from Dr Davis but he also has exceptional staff members that give you great care. I would recommend Davis dental to anyone looking for a quality dental care. - Victoria White. Bountiful, Utah

Neuromuscular Pain Relief and Therapeutic BOTOX

Therapeutic BOTOX to Treat TMJ Pain, Migraines, & More...

Why choose BOTOX to treat pain? BOTOX is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to prevent TMJ related pain, tension headaches, and migraine headaches. What some patients may not realize is their source of chronic headaches,or migraines, may come from tension in the mouth and jaw area. I commonly see this in patients who grind their teeth or constantly clench their jaw from stress. It is common that patients are not even aware that they are teeth grinders or hold tension in their jaw because it is subconscious behavior. A common symptom that people have is they will wake up in the morning with a sore jaw and a headache. This is usually due to nocturnal grinding which may occur because of excessive stress, syndromes such as obstructive sleep apnea, or even occlusal interferences (a bad bite). BOTOX injections can be a great solution for TMJ related pain and headaches.

See what "The Doctors" have to say about Botox and TMJ:

Migraine Pain and BOTOX from:

BOTOX patient testimonial:

After 15 years of chronic pain from grinding my teeth, the relief is unbelievable."
I had suffered for over 15 years from grinding my teeth at night (bruxism). My mouth guard was not getting the job done. During periods of stress, I would wake up every morning with headaches and a sore jaw.
Other dentists warned me I was destroying my teeth, but could not give me a solution!
After doing my own research, I learned of a new treatment for bruxism.  The same botox used for cosmetic procedures is injected into the muscles of the jaw, relaxing them.  Unfortunately, it took me three years to find a dentist in Utah that was trained in this procedure.
After my first treatment by Dr. Davis, my relief was immediate and profound.  I can now look forward to waking up in the morning, knowing I won’t be in pain.  It has been a dramatic improvement in my quality of life.

Continuing Education: Comprehensive Dental Implant Surgery Conference

Continuing Education: Dental Implant Conference
This last week I attended Dr. Anthony Sclar's ISTM 2013 Comprehensive Dental Implant Surgery Conference in Miami Beach, Florida. Dr. Sclar is considered a leader around the world in reconstructive and esthetic dental implant surgery. After having completed a year of Oral and Maxilliofacial Surgery at The Ohio State University I wanted to continue my passion and build my expertise on dental implants. This conference was an excellent educational opportunity to learn the latest surgical and prosthetic techniques to achieve proper form, function, and optimal esthetics for implant restorations. I believe in offering my patients treatment options that are based on sound scientific knowledge that will provide the most excellent and predicable outcomes. Dr. Sclar's expertise and experience in dental implant surgery is a valuable resource for practitioners like myself.  I am excited to bring this knowledge in implant surgery to my practice with assurance and confidence that my patients will receive the highest quality care.
